About WOTE Georgia Benevolence Fund

The WOTE GEORGIA BENEVOLENCE FUND group is a non-profit organization registered with the Secretary of the State of Georgia as WOTE GEORGIA BENEVOLENCE, INC. It is also referred to here as WOTE Georgia or simply WOTE GA. The name committee in this article refers to WOTE GA office bearers, also referred to as WOTE GA officials or WOTE GA directors.

History

The WOTE GEORGIA BENEVOLENCE FUND was formed by a group of Kenyan immigrants living in the State of Georgia, USA to financially assist family members when death occurs. Following in Kenya’s old tradition of holding a “harambee” (i.e. Swahili for coming together in unity and contributing towards an event…) here, the Kenyans in Georgia consistently come together and financially assist bereaved families with burial and other related expenses. However, the funds raised in this manner are normally unpredictable. Sometimes funds are not enough to commence the burial especially if the deceased was not known in the community.

For this reason, WOTE GA was formed to guarantee its members a certain amount of money to cushion them when death occurs. The funds can be used towards the deceased burial or other related expenses. Unlike commercially sold life insurance that limits coverage to only a person’s nuclear family, WOTE GA seeks to assist its members even when the death occurrence is for an extended family member, in this case, a member’s parents or siblings.

Mission Statement

WOTE GA members promise to be there for one another. To come together in brotherly love and mourn with the member(s) family by contributing financially towards the burial and other related expenses. In doing this, we play our part and become our brother’s keeper!
